Just imagine having cozy warm wool mittens made from your loved ones sweater. What a beautiful way to honor someone and cherish the memories. How about that favorite sweater that you have had forever, and it had gone through the wash by mistake and would now fit a doll, or it has a tear or stain? I would be honored to work with you to create your custom "Memory Mittens" from your cherished sweater.
How Memory Mittens came to be:
I had been making up-cycled mittens for about a year when I got a call from a local man in town who's wife had passed away a few years earlier. He said he had a few wool sweaters, skirts and a scarf that were his wife's favorites and asked if I could make mittens out of them. He wanted to give them to his daughters in memory of their mother. When he came to my house, just seeing the obvious memories he had through the clothes made me realize just how special this was for him. After he had given the mittens to his daughters, he called and told me how much they LOVED them. I had leftover wool from his wife's' clothes, so he ordered more for his granddaughters and his sisters!
It was such a good feeling to know that I helped to re-create some of those clothes into something they would cherish for years to come! This first experience has made me very passionate about wanting to do this for other people. When I was talking to a friend about my experience she came up with the name "Memory Mittens".
